Orinegro Tropical formed in 1985 in Tampico, Tamaulipas, with Juan Manuel López on lead vocals, Efraín González on bass, José Antonio Frías on drums, and Marco Antonio González on keyboards. Their debut album was called 'El Sonido de la Cumbia.'
In 1995, they released 'El Maderense,' a ballad about a young man from Madera, Chihuahua. The song became their most recognizable work, though some listeners found its story too graphic.
