Orion formed in Buenos Aires in 1995 with Emmanuel Ruiz on vocals, Fabricio Iacono and Ariel Malizia on guitars, Marcelo Ustarez on bass, and Diego Castro on drums. Their sound pulled from thrash, hardcore, and progressive metal, which put them at odds with some metal purists while finding an audience with others.

In 2003, the single "Lenguas Muertas" became a breakout track for them. The song's lyrics addressed oppression and resonated widely, helping push the band to a broader international listenership. Other songs like "Assim Como As Flores" and "Apágame Las Luces" followed in their catalog.

Their later albums included Invierno Eterno in 2005, Luz de Ruina in 2010, and El Origen in 2016.
