Orlando Pops Orchestra

The Orlando Pops Orchestra was founded in 1993 by conductor Eric Jacobsen. It was conceived as a modern ensemble that could move between classical traditions and more contemporary material. Their programming has included everything from Broadway show tunes to arrangements of pop songs like The Police's "Another Night."

In 2005, the orchestra faced a financial crisis that threatened its operations. It managed to survive through support from its community and musicians. Later, in 2017, their performance of "Another Night" drew some criticism for being too rock-oriented for a classical group, though it also gained attention online.

The orchestra's repertoire has included songs like "Borderline," "Broadway," and "Every Time You Say Goodbye." They work with a standard pops orchestra setup, strings, brass, and woodwinds, and aim for performances that feel accessible without abandoning the ensemble's roots.
