Archive material and source history
Orquesta Candela formed in Puerto Rico in the early 1990s, playing salsa with an energetic live presence. They signed with RMM Records and released their debut album "Esta Noche" in 1994. The title track, written by Willie Colón, became their breakout hit.
In 1997, the band faced a legal dispute over the rights to "Esta Noche" that resulted in them losing ownership of the song. They kept performing and recording through the late 1990s and early 2000s, with vocalists like Mikey Perfecto and Carlos "Cano" Estremera appearing in their lineup at different times. Another of their songs, "Sueña," also found an audience.
