Os Avassaladores formed in Rio de Janeiro in 1995, with Leonardo Lescano on vocals, Renato Bastos on guitar, André Guerreiro on bass, and Igor Leal on drums. Their debut album 'Sou Foda' came out in 1997, and the title track became a hit. The band's sound mixed funk, rock, and hip-hop, and their live shows were known for being energetic.
Their lyrics sometimes got them into trouble with critics who thought they were too explicit or rebellious. They had a song called 'Favelas' that spoke to marginalized communities. Other albums included 'Favelas' in 1999, 'O Som do Gueto' in 2002, and 'Brasil que Eu Quero' later on. Songs like 'Trai Comigo' and 'Na Pika Tu Quica' were part of their catalog.
