Os Cafumangos formed in Salvador, Bahia in 1980 with Gileno Gomes on vocals, José Carlos on guitar, Gil Correia on bass, and Dinho on drums. Their first album came out in 1983, simply called 'Cafumangos.' Two years later they released 'Mudança Das Cores,' which included the title track that became their most recognized song.
The band toured in Europe and Africa during this period, though they also dealt with internal conflicts and lineup changes over time.
They reunited in 2001 and put out albums like 'Cafumangos 2000' and 'Alegre bahia.' Other musicians like percussionist Armandinho and saxophonist Tiganá Santana played with the group at different points.
