Archive material and source history
Os Guabiranhas formed in Fortaleza in 1978, originally with Wellington Soares on vocals, Dorgival Dantas on guitar, Wilson Aragão on bass, Zé Luís on drums, and Zé Eduardo on tambourine. They came up playing forró and other Brazilian rhythms, and their first album came out in 1980. That record was called 'É Que Eu Sou Do Ceará', and the title track stuck around.
They had some lineup changes in the early 1980s, including Soares leaving the group. They kept recording and playing, and later on there was a legal dispute over song rights in 2008 that got sorted out. Their catalog includes songs like 'Paródia Do Troco'.
