Os Moikanos formed in Rio de Janeiro in the late 1990s with Alexandre Guedes on vocals and guitar, Giovanni "Giba" da Silva on bass, and Fernando "Torta" Evangelista on drums. Their debut album "Raiz" came out in 1999.
In 2003, they released "Lhe Traíram," which became their most recognized song. That same year, the band faced legal challenges over their lyrics, which often dealt with class and political themes.
They put out another album called "Por um Triz" in 2008. Their music found an audience particularly in Rio's marginalized communities.
