Os Mulekes formed in 2011 in Complexo da Maré, a favela on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro. They started as a group of young musicians making music in a place where poverty and violence were everyday realities. Their early performances drew attention for lyrics that didn't shy away from favela life.
In 2014, their single "Gata Manda Ver" broke through nationally. The song's beat and message connected with listeners across Brazil, though some critics questioned their lyrical content. They followed with albums like "A Vida É Agora" in 2015, "Foi Só Você" in 2017, and "Tudo Nosso" in 2019.
Their songs include "Olha A Lua," "Mistura Fina," "Perdoa," and "Opções." The group's lineup has included Nego Bala on vocals, MC Dricka on vocals, DJ Cesinha on production, Marquinhos on guitar, Dudu on bass, and Jhonathan on drums.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
