Os Naipes formed in Porto, Portugal in 1998, playing a mix of rock, ska, and reggae. Their debut album 'Contra a Corrente' came out the following year. The band's lineup included Tiago 'Tico' Sousa on vocals, Nuno 'Nuno K' Lopes on guitar, Ricardo 'Rick' Cruzeiro on bass, and Pedro 'Pedrinho' Ribeiro on drums.
Their 2001 album 'Cansada de Ficar Aqui' gave them one of their best-known songs. The band's lyrics often addressed social and political themes, which sometimes drew criticism and led to performance disruptions.
They released another album called 'O Mundo É Nosso' in 2006. The song 'Velho Farol' also became part of their catalog.
