Os Navegantes formed in Porto Alegre in 1963 with Mário Thiago on vocals and guitar, Flavio Henrique on bass, Claudio Koepke on guitar, and Ruy Godinho on drums. Their debut album 'Do Sol' came out in 1965, and its title track became something of an anthem during Brazil's politically turbulent years.
They released several albums through the 1960s and 1970s, including 'Os Navegantes' in 1966, 'Tempo de Paz' in 1971, and 'Saudade' in 1975. Another song, 'Bandeira da Paz,' also found an audience.
After more than a decade of activity, the band's recorded output slowed. Their early material, particularly songs like 'Do Sol,' remains what most listeners know them for today.
