Os 3 Nortistas formed in Garanhuns, Pernambuco in 1998 with José Orlando on vocals and guitar, João Claudino on vocals and bass, and Josias Sobrinho on vocals and accordion. Their sound drew from forró, embolada, and baião traditions of northeastern Brazil.
Their debut album "De Garanhuns a Caruaru" came out in 1999, and the title track became something of a regional anthem. Other songs like "Deixe Comigo" and "O Corpo Precisa de Álcool" also found an audience.
In the early 2000s they released albums including "Forró de Bolso" in 2003 and "Forró pra Matar" in 2005. A legal dispute over music rights in 2010 created some trouble, but they kept going.
