Background notes

Archive material and source history

Os Parabrisas formed in Salvador, Bahia during the 1960s. The group included Edgard Ferreira (Tits) on vocals and guitar, Gileno Aguiar (Gila) on percussion, Pedro Gondim (Peteco) on bass, and Gilberto Gomes (Giba) on saxophone. They drew from local styles like samba and frevo, though they weren't exactly a traditional axé band.

Their 1972 album 'Festa a Fantasia' gave them their biggest hit with the title track. That song, along with 'Johnny Sarado' and 'Porteiro Severino,' became staples in their set.

After the group wound down, Tits pursued a solo career. Giba also worked on his own projects, while Peteco and Gila kept playing in various configurations. Their music, especially 'Festa a Fantasia,' still turns up during Carnival season in Bahia.
