Os Parafernalias formed in Rio de Janeiro in 1978, with Paulo Ricardo on vocals, Nando Reis and Roberto Frejat on guitars, Tavinho Paes on bass, and João Barone on drums. Their first album came out in 1981, simply called 'Parafernalias.' The song 'Cadillac' from that record caught on quickly, its 'Meu Cadillac' refrain turning into something of a street chant.
They kept putting out records through the 1980s, like 'Cada Loco No Seu Mundo' in 1987 and 'Circo da Noite' in 1989. Other songs people remember include 'Garanhão' and 'Moralles & Constansa.'
Musically, they pulled from funk and samba but weren't afraid to try other things as they went along. They weren't a band that stayed in one lane. By the time they wrapped up, they'd left behind a handful of albums that felt specific to that late-70s, 80s Rio moment, with 'Cadillac' still getting played decades later.
