Os Quatro Gaudérios formed in Rio Grande do Sul in the late 1990s with Antonio Gringo Mariano on vocals and guitar, João Luiz Correa on bass, Luiz Fernando Alves on accordion, and Carlos Roberto Ferreira on percussion. They worked with the folk music traditions of their region, particularly gaúcho rhythms, while bringing in contemporary elements.
Their song 'Muvuca da Neguinha' became a festival staple in Brazil, mixing those traditional gaúcho rhythms with danceable beats. They released albums like 'Bailão' in 2002, 'De Pé no Chão' in 2005, 'Alma Gaúcha' in 2007, 'Em Festa' in 2010, and 'Tradição e Modernidade' in 2015.
Some purists in the folk scene criticized their blend of traditional and modern styles, but the band kept the same lineup and continued playing. Their music has appeared in films and television shows in Brazil.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
