The 3 Tenors

The Three Tenors were Luciano Pavarotti, Plácido Domingo, and José Carreras. They first performed together in 1990 at the Baths of Caracalla in Rome, timed with the FIFA World Cup in Italy. That concert was televised and introduced them to a wide audience beyond opera houses.

Their repertoire included opera arias like 'Nessun Dorma' and 'Libiamo ne' lieti calici (Brindisi)', along with traditional songs and popular material. They recorded several live albums from concerts in 1990, 1994, and 1998.

Carreras had returned to performing after leukemia treatment when the trio formed. Their television appearances and recordings brought classical vocal music to listeners who might not have encountered it otherwise.
