Os Trovadores do Campo formed in the late 1970s, coming from the countryside of Minas Gerais. Their music drew from Brazilian sertanejo traditions, with the viola caipira at the center of their sound. They released their first album in 1977.
Renato Teixeira wrote their signature song "Balanço de Cordas," which became an anthem of rural life. Other songs like "Melô do Velho" and "Viola Chorona" show their connection to folk traditions. The group included Almir Sater on viola caipira and vocals, along with Renato Teixeira, Chico Teixeira, and Zé Geraldo.
They recorded several albums including "Ao Vivo no Canecão" in 1980 and "Retrato do Campo" in 1982. Their music sometimes touched on social themes, which occasionally drew attention from authorities. Their songs remain part of Brazilian folk music.
