Os Tubarões formed in 1973 in Mindelo, the cultural hub of Cape Verde. Their debut album 'Tubarões' came out in 1976 and established them nationally. They worked with traditional Cape Verdean styles like morna and coladeira, but also brought in outside influences over time.
Their lyrics sometimes addressed social and political issues, which occasionally got them in trouble with authorities. The band included members like Luís Morais on vocals and guitar, Paulino Vieira on bass, and Mito Kaskas on drums.
Songs like 'Porton D'nós Ilha' and 'Somada' became well-known in their catalog. They kept recording through the years, with albums like 'Cabo Verde' in 1979, 'Katchupada' in 1981, and 'Esperança' in 1999.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
