Os Varões formed in the 1970s as a group of musicians from an Assembleia de Deus church in Rio de Janeiro. They started making music within the Brazilian Pentecostal movement, but their approach wasn't quite traditional. They worked with pop and rock sounds when many in their community expected something more conventional.
Their song 'Vaso de Valor' became particularly well-known among their listeners. The band faced some criticism from religious leaders who felt their musical style diluted the gospel message, which created divisions in some Pentecostal circles. Andrè Valadão served as their vocalist and songwriter, with Emerson Pinheiro on keyboards, Rogério Vieira on bass, and Márcio Valadão on drums.
They kept recording over time, putting out albums like 'Somos Todos Vasos' in their later years. The group maintained a following among Brazilian Christians who connected with their particular blend of faith and contemporary music.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
