A late-80s Brazilian rock group anchored by the voice of Renato Russo.
For a quick sense of their range, put 'Vá Pro Inferno Com Seu Amor' next to 'Abalado na Noite'. One's all snarl, the other's a sigh.
They were the first band Renato Russo fronted before forming Legião Urbana, and their debut 'Que País É Este' came out in 1987. Songs like 'Abalado na Noite' show a softer, ballad side that balanced their rock edge. Their catalog captures a specific moment in Brazilian music when rock was finding its voice in Brasília.
Os Virgens formed in Brasília in 1985 and put out their first album two years later. They released a handful of records through the early 1990s, including 'Dois' in 1988 and 'O Último Romântico' in 1990. The band's activity wound down after Renato Russo's death in 1996.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
