Os 3 Xirus formed in the early 1990s with João José on vocals and guitar, Negrete on drums, and Fernando on bass. Their music drew from Brazilian rhythms like samba, mixed with reggae and pop elements. They released their self-titled debut album in 1993.
Their song "Salve a Terceira Idade" became particularly well-known, celebrating the vitality of older people. Other tracks like "Declaração de Amor" and "Fuquinha Meia Dois" show their blend of humor and straightforward melodic appeal. They followed up with albums including "Salve a Terceira Idade" in 1995 and "Novo Milênio" in 2000.
Some critics found their approach sentimental, but the band kept performing and recording. Their music stayed focused on themes of respect and everyday experience, delivered with a light touch.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
