Otha formed in Vancouver in the early 2000s with Sarah Blackwood on vocals, Adam Hurst on guitar, Dan Kelly on bass, and Kevin March on drums. Their first single "One of the Girls" came out in 2003 and did well on Canadian alternative charts. They put out albums roughly every few years after that, including Lady Luck in 2006, The Night is Ours in 2009, and The Thief in 2012.
Blackwood's writing tended toward personal themes, and the band's sound shifted over those records from their initial alternative rock toward more electronic textures by the time of The Thief. Another track, "I'm On Top," also became part of their set.
Their work sometimes drew attention for its direct lyrics, and Blackwood was open about dealing with mental health and addiction, which led to some breaks in activity. They kept a fairly low profile outside their releases, letting the music speak for itself.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
