Yutaka Ozaki was a Japanese singer-songwriter who started performing in Tokyo's small live houses with his high school band Heartbeat in the early 1980s. He signed with Sony Music in 1983 and released his debut single '17-sai no Chizu' that same year.
His songs like 'Oh My Little Girl,' 'Shelly,' and '15 no Yoru' connected with listeners through straightforward lyrics and melodic rock arrangements. He released several albums throughout the 1980s including 'Radio Days' in 1985 and 'Kazemachi Roman' in 1987, maintaining a consistent output of material that resonated with his audience.
Ozaki's personal struggles with addiction and mental health became public in the early 1990s when he was arrested for drug possession. He died in 1992 at age 26 from complications related to alcohol abuse. His music continues to be heard through songs like 'Boku Ga Boku de Aru Tameni' and 'Taiyou No Hahen,' which remain part of his catalog.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
