Ozma formed in Los Angeles in the late 1990s with Randalin Rose, Daniel Brummel, Jose Ayerve, and Patrick Edwards. Their debut album 'Rock and Roll Part Three' came out in 2001, followed by 'Spending Time on the Borderline' in 2003. The band went on hiatus in 2004, then reunited in 2013 to release 'Boomtown' and tour.

Their song 'Restart' from 2003 became a fan favorite, though it led to a copyright dispute with BMG Music over similarities to a Styx track. Other songs like 'A Song About You' and 'Coffee Shop Girl' show their melodic indie rock style.

After the hiatus, the lineup changed with Dusty Hernandez, Lawrence Katz, and Eddie Reyes joining. Rose remained the consistent member through these shifts.
