Pachanga formed in Barcelona in 1987 with Rodolfo Castillo on vocals, José Luis Sánchez on percussion, Luis Guillén on keyboards, Óscar Quintana on guitar, and José María Pérez on bass. Their debut album 'Una Cita Conmigo' came out the following year, and the single 'Baby Believe Me' became a hit. The band's sound mixed salsa and merengue with pop elements, heard on songs like 'Recuerdos de amor' and 'Hispano style'.
Castillo left in 1992 to go solo, and after a break, Cuban singer César Millán joined. They kept recording through the 1990s, putting out albums like 'La Fiesta' in 1993 and 'Volver a Empezar' in 1997. In 2000, a former manager claimed the band hadn't been properly paid, a dispute that lasted several years.
Their catalog includes 'Ritmo Caliente' from 1989, 'Pachanga' from 1991, 'Salsa Caliente' from 1995, and 'Pachanga 2000' from that same year. Tracks like 'Todos juntos' and 'Como estás' show their upbeat, danceable approach.
