Padi formed in 1997 as an Indonesian pop-rock band. Their first album, "Lain Dunia," came out in 1999 and drew some criticism for leaning heavily on keyboards and electronic sounds, though it found its audience anyway. The lineup included Fadly on vocals, Piyu on guitar, Rindra on bass, Ari on drums, and Yoyo on keyboards.
They followed up with "Sesuatu yang Tertunda" in 2001, "Save My Soul" in 2005, and "Tak Hanya Diam" in 2011. In 2006, Piyu was arrested for marijuana possession, which led to a temporary hiatus and some public backlash during what had been a peak period for the band.
Their song "Kasih Tak Sampai" became a major hit about unrequited love, along with tracks like "Semua Tak Sama" and "Begitu Indah." It resonated widely across Southeast Asia, winning awards and topping charts. The band's straightforward approach to emotional themes in their music kept them relevant through various phases.
