Padrinho Sebastião

Padrinho Sebastião is a band from Bahia, Brazil, led by Walmir Lima who goes by the same name. Their music draws from the Candomblé traditions of Salvador, where Lima first encountered the chants and rhythms associated with the Orixás. The group blends those elements with Afrobeat, reggae, and hip-hop, creating a sound that feels both rooted and contemporary.

Their core lineup includes Lima on vocals and percussion, Aninha do Cavaco on cajon and vocals, and Gustavo di Dalva on bass. They've worked with artists like Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, and Seu Jorge, who appeared on their track "É Pedindo E É Rogando." That song became something of a breakout for them.

They've released albums such as "Axé Pra Nossos Orixás" in 2002, "Orixá dos Caminhos" in 2006, and "Salve o Padrinho" in 2013. Their approach has drawn some criticism from within Candomblé communities about bringing sacred rituals into commercial music, but the band sees their work as connecting those traditions to wider audiences.

Beyond recording, Padrinho Sebastião participates in cultural festivals and educational projects focused on Afro-Brazilian heritage. They also engage in activism around social justice, particularly in marginalized communities.
