Pafi formed in Porto, Portugal in 1997 with Sérgio Rosado on vocals, João Reis on guitar, Pedro Coelho on bass, Tiago Silva on drums, and Henrique Pereira on keyboards. Their song 'A Aventura Vai Começar!' became a national hit that same year, giving the band its first real recognition.
That track's music video drew some criticism for what was called provocative imagery at the time, but the band kept it as they'd made it. They released several albums through the 2000s, including 'Vamos Dançar!' in 1999 and 'Tudo Vai Mudar' in 2003.
