Archive material and source history

Pagan Rites formed in Sweden around 2000, coming out of that country's black metal scene. Their first album, 'Into the Woods of Evil,' arrived in 2003, followed by 'Rites of the Black Moon' in 2005. The band's name points toward their interest in paganism and occult themes, which carried through their lyrics.

In 2007, they released '7th Soul of Hell,' a song that drew criticism for its graphic depictions of suffering. The track became one of their most well-known, alongside others like 'Bloodlust and Devastation' and 'Crucified in Flames.' They kept putting out albums through the 2000s and into the early 2010s, though they dealt with lineup shifts along the way.

Pagan Rites disbanded in 2017, then came back together with a different lineup in 2022. They played some shows and released 'Vengeful Night' in 2023.
