Papercranes formed in Portland, Maine in 2008 as a quartet led by vocalist Sarah Perrott. They released a debut EP called 'Sojourn' that year, followed by their first full-length album 'The Way Out' in 2010. Songs like 'Curtain Song' and 'Satellite' from that period became live staples, built around Perrott's vocals and the band's layered arrangements.
In 2013, bassist Matt Lombard and drummer Nick Ulrich left the group, which led to a break from touring. Papercranes returned in 2016 with 'Carry the Fire,' their third album. The record included tracks like 'Treasure' and 'Here,' and was noted for its more settled sound compared to their earlier work.
