Paperwhite formed when vocalist Celeste Rayne met guitarist Ethan Knight at an open mic night. Their atmospheric sound developed from that beginning, with Knight handling most of the songwriting and Rayne's voice giving it a particular character. The band eventually included drummer Jasper Locke and bassist Anya Celeste.
Their debut album 'Whispers of the Wind' came out in 2015, followed by 'Eclipse' in 2017 and 'Ascension' in 2019. The song 'Magic' became their most recognizable track, though at one point they faced accusations of imitating another indie band's style, which they denied.
