Paralelo 38 formed in Rio de Janeiro in the early 1980s with Paulinho Moska on vocals and guitar, Guto Goffi on vocals and saxophone, André Fonseca on bass, and Chico Batera on drums. They played a mix of samba, funk, and rock, building a local following through live shows.
Their self-titled debut album came out in 1988 and helped them reach a national audience. One of their best-known songs from that period is "Isso Vai Passar," which connected with listeners during Brazil's economic and political difficulties in the late '80s and early '90s.
The band went on hiatus in 1994 and didn't play together again until 2004, when they reunited for touring. They've released a few albums since then, including a live version of "Isso Vai Passar" in 2016.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
