Paramæcium came out of Scandinavia's underground metal scene in the early 1990s. Their music was a chaotic mix of punishing riffs, screamed vocals, and thunderous drums that fit squarely in the grindcore world. The band included Leif Jensen on vocals, Martin Schulman on guitar, Fredrik Wallenberg on bass, and Richard Evenlind on drums.
Their debut album 'Silent Carnage' arrived in 1992 and became a touchstone in grindcore circles.
Paramæcium released several more albums through the 1990s and 2000s, including 'Kiss the Blood,' 'Subterranean,' and 'Exhumed.' Their sound evolved to incorporate elements of death metal and industrial music while keeping their foundational intensity. Later records like 'Pro Natura' and 'Repent' explored themes beyond pure violence, touching on environmentalism and political oppression.
