00Part formed in 1981 as a duo with Henry Rollins on vocals and Greg Ginn on guitar. Rollins had been in Black Flag, and Ginn brought an abrasive guitar style to the mix. Their early shows happened in small clubs and basements, building an underground following.
In 1984 they put out their debut album "The Message 3: Final," which included the song "The Message." That track's lyrics about nuclear warfare connected with listeners during the Cold War, though some critics called it nihilistic. The album got attention and helped define the band's sound.
After Rollins left in 1987, Keith Morris from Black Flag became the vocalist. Other members at different times included bassist Dave Grohl and guitarist Lee Ranaldo. They released albums like "Meantime" in 1985 and "Conspiracy of One" in 1988, with their music sometimes incorporating metal and noise elements. The group disbanded in 1990.
