Pater Moeskroen was a Dutch comedy rock band that formed in Maastricht in 1979. Their name played on the French "père Moeskroen," a nod to their hometown's Flemish history. The original lineup included Jan "Blattie" van der Werf on vocals and guitar, Raymond van het Groenewoud on bass and vocals, and Peter "Pest" Koelewijn on drums and vocals.
They released several albums in the 1980s, starting with 1980's "Het meisje met de piccolo." That song became their most recognizable track, with its absurd lyrics about a girl playing the piccolo while her boyfriend does the tango. Other songs like "Hozanna" and "Alle tijd is duur" followed a similar pattern of mixing catchy melodies with satirical, often nonsensical wordplay.
They disbanded the following year, in 1987. Their music maintained a cult following in the Netherlands, where their blend of humor and rock left a noticeable imprint on the country's comedy rock scene.
