Pathology formed in Chicago in 1996, started by guitarist Tim Ryan and bassist Matt Stanley. They put out a couple of demos in the late '90s that didn't get much notice at first. The band's lineup included Dave Astor on vocals, Steve Vaccaro on guitar, and Chris Pervelis on drums.
Their 2002 album 'Abduction' gave them a clearer direction. The title track became a staple in their sets, and songs like 'A Bleak Future' and 'A Perverse Existence' showed their focus on tight, aggressive death metal. They kept recording through the 2000s and 2010s, with albums like 'Legacy of Torture' in 2005 and 'Reborn in Violence' in 2017.
Their music deals with dark themes, and some of their artwork and performances drew criticism for being too graphic. They didn't really change course because of it. Pathology stayed with a straightforward, heavy approach that worked for their audience.
