Patrick Carney is the drummer and co-founder of The Black Keys, a band that started in Akron, Ohio in 1999. He and guitarist Dan Auerbach put out their first album, 'The Big Come Up,' in 2002. Their sound was raw and bluesy from the start, and they built a following without much polish.
Their third album, 'Attack & Release' from 2008, included the song 'I Got Mine' and helped push them toward wider recognition. They've kept making records since, like 'Brothers' and 'El Camino,' and their song 'A Horse With No Name' shows up in their catalog. Carney's drumming has a straightforward drive that fits their stripped-down approach.
The band has dealt with some legal issues, including a copyright lawsuit over 'Howlin' for You' that got settled out of court. They've put out nine studio albums through 2021, working mostly as a duo with Auerbach on guitar and vocals and Carney on drums.
