Paul Cless is the vocalist behind the song "Suavemente," which became an international sensation after its release in 1996. That track appeared on his debut album, also titled "Paul Cless." He was born Edwin Clemente Perez in Puerto Rico.
After "Suavemente," he released several more albums, including "Paul Cless II" in 1997, "Clessico" in 1999, and "Salsa" in 2001. He worked with other artists like Tito Nieves, Gilberto Santa Rosa, and India. His band was called La Excelencia, with musicians including Carlos Hernandez on keyboards, Angel Rodrigues on bass, and Kevin Hernandez on drums.
In 2000, Cless was arrested on drug-related charges, which led to a break from music. His outspoken political views and lyrics sometimes drew criticism. A 20th anniversary edition of "Suavemente" came out in 2016.
