Archive material and source history
Paul Collins came up in New York City in the 1970s, playing in a band called the Nerves. He later formed The Beat with guitarist Chris Bratton, bassist Brad Marino, and drummer Dean Minderman. Their self-titled debut album came out in 1982.
The Beat's song 'Rainha Má' got some attention with its energetic feel. The band didn't last long, breaking up around 1983. Collins kept making music on his own and with other groups, including one called Paul Collins' Beat.
He's put out records like 'From A Radio' in 1994 and 'King of Power Pop!' in 2001. The music he made with The Beat, especially that early album, still gets mentioned by people who like that kind of straightforward rock.
