The British singer whose blues-rock delivery defined bands like Free and Bad Company.
For the Free years, listen to "All Right Now." For the Bad Company sound, start with "Can't Get Enough."
Rodgers' voice was the engine for two of the 1970s' most durable rock bands. With Free, he sang "All Right Now," a riff that still gets played on classic rock radio. Later, with Bad Company, he delivered the swagger of "Can't Get Enough" and "Movin' On."
He started in local clubs, influenced by Otis Redding and Wilson Pickett. In 1967, he joined Free, where his voice anchored their blues-rock sound on albums like "Fire and Water." After Free ended, he formed Bad Company in 1973, which had immediate success with their debut album.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
