Paula Mendes

Paula Mendes came from Jequié, Bahia, and started working with producer Paulo César Pinheiro in the 1980s. Her 1984 debut album featured 'Passarinho Sem Ninho,' which became a hit in Brazil. The song's title translates to 'Bird Without a Nest,' and it connected with listeners through its straightforward melody and lyrics about displacement.

She recorded other songs like 'Adorador' and 'Ele É Deus,' which kept her voice present in Brazilian music through the late 80s and 90s. Her band Trem da Alegria included guitarist Chico Pinheiro, bassist Jorge Helder, and drummer Maurício Barros. They played on albums such as 'Coração Brasileiro' from 1988 and 'Maravilhas do Mundo' from 1994.

Mendes was known for speaking about social issues and supporting LGBTQ+ communities, which brought both attention and criticism. She performed with artists like Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso, and recorded a live album at Circo Voador in 2002. Her music, including 'Ao Som do Teu Louvor,' stayed in circulation without dramatic claims about its impact.
