A Brazilian musician who blended Amazonian rhythms with popular song for decades.
For his sound, start with 'Andança.' For the feel of his earlier work, try 'A caravela' or 'A menina e a fonte.'
Tapajós brought the carimbó and siriá rhythms of the Amazon region into Brazilian popular music when that wasn't common. His 1983 song 'Andança' became his signature, but the feel of his work always comes back to that early grounding. He was inducted into the Brazilian Academy of Music in 2011.
He started with his first band, Os Tapenheiros, in the early 1960s, playing local festivals. His debut album 'Minha Terra' in 1968 set the template, mixing Amazonian folk with popular music, and he kept recording through the 1970s and 1980s.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
