Paulo Filho

Paulo Filho was born in São João do Jaguaribe, Ceará, and grew up playing accordion and singing forró at local festivals. In the early 1980s, he recorded his debut album, which included the song 'São João do Jaguaribe Minha Terra.' That track became popular across Brazil, though some listeners noted its similarity to older folk songs from the region.

He kept recording after that, putting out more than twenty albums over time. Another song people remember is 'Secas e Enchentes,' which, like much of his work, drew on the rhythms and stories of his home area. He often performed with musicians like Valter Teles on drums and Luizinho da Sanfona on accordion.

There were legal disputes about royalties and copyright during his career, which he addressed while continuing to make music. His recordings remain familiar in parts of Brazil, particularly in Ceará, where songs like 'São João do Jaguaribe Minha Terra' still get played at local gatherings.
