Paulo Godoy formed his eponymous Brazilian rock band in 2002 with bassist Dudu Azevedo and drummer Gustavo Duarte. Their debut album 'A Primeira Pedra' came out in 2005, and its title track became an immediate hit. The band's lineup has shifted over time, with guitarist Anderson Fiorentino joining later.
Their music draws from Brazilian folk, rock, and heavy metal influences. After that first album, they released several others including 'O Céu e o Inferno' in 2007, 'Pedra Fundamental' in 2010, and 'O Último Dia' in 2015. Songs like 'Atrito' and 'Ficando Velho' show the raw, emotional quality of their work.
Godoy's lyrics and stage presence have sometimes sparked debate. In 2010, he was arrested for drug possession, which led to a brief break for the band. They've continued making music despite these challenges, with Godoy remaining the frontman and primary creative force.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
