Paulo Henrí grew up in Vila Nova Cachoeirinha, a neighborhood in São Paulo. He formed the band Gotas de Sangue in 2002 with his childhood friend Anderson Leonardo. Their debut album 'O Morro' came out in 2005, and its title track 'Gotas de Sangue' became an anthem in Brazil's favelas.
His lyrics often dealt with poverty, violence, and police brutality. In 2009, he was arrested after a concert performance of the song 'Eu Não Sou Ladrão,' which sparked a national debate about freedom of expression. The band kept releasing albums like 'Direto do Morro' in 2007 and 'Fé na Luta' in 2013.
Paulo Henrí collaborated with artists including Elza Soares and Gilberto Gil. Other songs like 'Minha sorte' and 'Vírus do Amor' show his range beyond the political material that first brought attention to his work.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
