Paulo Rocha

Paulo Rocha was born in Santos, Brazil in 1952. He began performing as a solo artist in the late 1970s, working with a sound that drew from samba, bossa nova, and rock. His lyrics often addressed social and political themes, which earned him both a following and some official scrutiny.

In 1985, he released the album "Não Assisto Ao Chateaubriand." The title track became particularly well-known for its critical stance toward Brazilian media. The song's blunt, poetic style resonated with many listeners at the time.

Rocha continued to record music into the 2000s, with albums like "Pra Cima do Samba" and "Sambadeiras." He worked with musicians including guitarist Marcio Faraco and drummer Zeca Assumpção. His later material sometimes incorporated elements of funk and soul alongside the Brazilian rhythms that grounded his earlier work.
