Paulo Sérgio Valle was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1946. He grew up listening to everything from Bach and Debussy to João Gilberto and Antônio Carlos Jobim, which gave his songwriting a particular shape.
In 1966, he wrote 'Teletema,' a song that caught on with Brazilian youth. It had a strange, hypnotic quality that felt different from what was on the radio at the time. He followed it with other songs like 'Viola Enluarada' and 'Bicicleta' that kept that same thoughtful, slightly melancholic tone.
He kept writing anyway, and his songs were recorded by artists like Chico Buarque, Milton Nascimento, and Elis Regina.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
