Mario Pelchat was born in Sainte-Foy, Quebec in 1963. He started performing locally, influenced by singers like Elvis Presley and Johnny Hallyday. His self-titled debut album came out in 1992, and the single 'Pleurs dans la pluie' became a hit in Quebec.
That song, along with others like 'À juste raison' and 'C'est la vie,' helped establish him as a singer of romantic ballads. He released several albums through the 1990s and 2000s, including 'Au nom de l'amour' in 1993 and 'Sentiments' in 1995.
His personal life has included some public difficulties, including a divorce in 1998 and reports of substance abuse. He has continued to perform and record, often with a live band that has included guitarist Stéphane Dufour and bassist Francis Larose.
