Archive material and source history

Pelican Fanclub formed in Edinburgh in the early 1990s, with Barry Burns, Brian Nash, Chris Geddes, and Robert Kildea making up the original lineup. They put out their first EP, 'Up Up and Away,' in 1991, and their debut album 'Fear of Fours' came two years later. That record included 'Who Are You?,' which became their best-known song.

They kept recording through the late 1990s and early 2000s, with albums like 'The Boatman's Call' and 'City Lights.' Other songs from that period include 'Sangenshoku' and 'Desire.' The band's sound leaned on melodic guitar work and harmonies, with lyrics that often had a bittersweet edge.

There were some rough patches along the way, including a plagiarism dispute in 1995 and Nash's personal struggles, which led to periods where the band was less active. They kept going despite lineup changes, continuing to release music and play shows.
