Pendragon

Pendragon started as a band called Zeus in 1978, formed by vocalist Nick Barrett and guitarist Steve Williams in St. Austell, Cornwall. They later added bassist Peter Gee and drummer Fudge Smith, playing in local pubs before changing their name to Pendragon in 1985, drawing from Arthurian legend. The early lineup solidified around Barrett and Williams, with Gee and Smith rounding out the group during those formative years.

In the 1990s, Pendragon faced internal conflicts and financial troubles that led to some members leaving, but Barrett and Williams kept the band going by bringing in new musicians. Their albums from that period, like 'The Jewel' and 'Kowtow', helped build their reputation in progressive rock circles. Songs such as 'Am I Really Losing You?' and 'Green Eyed Angel' from their catalog reflect the emotional weight and melodic complexity they became known for.

Over time, Pendragon's music evolved with releases like 'Passion' and 'Pure', which continued to blend intricate arrangements with accessible melodies. Tracks like 'If I Were the Wind (And You Were the Rain)' and 'This Green And Pleasant Land' showcase their ability to craft narratives within a progressive framework, maintaining a connection with fans through shifts in their sound and lineup.
